Obituary for Harold D. Bisset

Harold D. Bisset
ROCKLAND - Harold D. Bisset, 88, died peacefully, Tuesday, July 29, 2014 at Pen Bay Medical Center in Rockport.
Born May 21, 1926 in Rye, New York, he was the only child of William G. and Florence VanHorn Bisset. He attended local schools and graduated from Oneonta, (New York) High School.
Following high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps, serving his country during World War II.
Honorably discharged, on June 22, 1947 he married Suzanne Creighton in Chappaqua, New York. The couple moved to Jamaica, Vermont, where they lived for a year before moving to Windsor Locks, Connecticut. They later lived in New Hartford and Pleasant Valley. In late 1968, the family moved to Maine, where he has since resided.
While in Pleasant Valley, he was employed as a Jet Engine Inspector with Pratt-Whitney. Harold served as Director of Maintenance with SAD 5 until his retirement in 1990.
He was a longtime member of the Osprey Club at Pen Bay Medical Center.
He enjoyed vegetable gardening, and in his younger years, hunting and fishing. He also loved spending time at Candy’s Cove in Port Clyde, where his family owned property.
His family also remembered his love of cookies. His close friend Bill Warren often stopped for a visit with tea and cookies. He had a special bond with Tim Fogg (who recently passed away) and together they enjoyed watching (the seagulls). Harold’s family would like to thank Tim’s wife, Janet for her attention with Dad during this time.
His family shared that Harold carried the first dollar he ever made with him wherever he went.
Predeceased by his wife Suzanne November 26, 2003, Harold is survived by one son Scott Bisset and his wife, Carol of Union; one daughter Jennifer Simmons and her husband Matthew of Cushing; grandchildren, Ashton McClean and his wife Sarah, Heather May Bisset and great-grandchildren, Grace and Ella.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, August 7, 2014 at Achorn Cemetery, Old County Road, Rockland. The Reverend Dr. Linwood Welch will officiate.
Arrangements are in the care of Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock Street, Rockland.
Donations in Harold’s memory are suggested to Rockland EMS, 118 Park Street, Rockland, ME 04841 or Pope Memorial Humane Society of Knox County, P. O. Box 1294, Rockland, ME 04841.
