Obituary for Ray E. Collins

OWLS HEAD – Ray E. Collins, Jr., 66, died unexpectedly, Tuesday, June 17, 2014 at Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor. Born in Wells, Maine, August 4, 1947, he was the son of Ray, Sr. and Ruth Yorke Collins. Growing up in Ogunquit, Ray was a graduate of Wells High School. Following graduation he attended the University of Maine at Fort Kent. For a brief time Ray resided in Florida before returning his home state of Maine. It was then that he began his 20 year career as a corrections officer with the Maine State Prison. He retired from there in 1997. Ray was a devoted Red Sox Fan, never missing a game. He took great pride in his home and enjoyed tending the yard and mowing the lawn. Cross word puzzles were another favorite pastime, and he had a special place in his heart for his cat ‘Baby’. Predeceased by a granddaughter, Amanda Cafaro, Ray is survived by his companion of 19 years, Ellen Richardson of Owls Head; his daughter Rayanne Cafaro and her husband Tony of Wells; his sisters, Linda Able and her husband Bruce of Wells, Suzanne ‘Tudy’ Smith and her husband Richard of Cape Neddick; a granddaughter Katherine Cafaro of Wells; as well as several nieces and nephews. Ray’s family has chosen to remember his life privately. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of America, 600 Third Street, New York City, NY 10016.
