Condolences

Condolence From: Jody Bucci Soules
Condolence: Al McNeilly has been such a special part of the hearts of the Bucci clan since the 1960's. He made the Exxon move to Westchester so much easier and the vacations in Maine so very special. He lives on in the smile and great hearts of all of his children. A very special man and I am so privileged to have him be a part of my life. Thank you Al McNeilly,
Jody Bucci Soules

Condolence: I met Al through my dad Alan Kinne, who loved, admired and enjoyed his friendship. There was never a time when being greeted by Al, that he didn't make you feel special. I may not remember his words, but I'll always remember how he made me feel.
I send my deepest sympathies on your great loss.

Condolence From: Elizabeth Reuthe
Condolence: In 1994, I was appointed to the University of Maine Development Council. Al and I and a few others lead the development council in a visioning process that embraced the changes in technology that we (and a few faculty members) saw coming. We were worried about how to fund and attract the very best to Maine - the best teachers and researchers who could help start businesses here. The idea was to provide classes to other campuses via internet technology and on line classes and spread the cost of excellence across the system and beyond. Al got really passionate (as he so often did) but what came out of that project was a special friendship between us. I went with him to haul traps, saw poverty nub and heard the stories about the farm, his grandfather, prepared the bait and bands, laughed with him, and was sad with him, met him for lunch when I was in the neighborhood, hung out at both houses, heard about the family, the university, the class of 44 (he made me an honorary member) but more than that, Al supported me as I left corporate life and started life as a consultant. That was 20 years ago. John and I count ourselves as lucky to have had Al's love and caring in our lives. He is a model of energy and engagement that we both would love to emulate. He touched so many and loved them all so much! I know that he was proud of each member of the family, loved you all very much and was so glad that so many of you are close to what he always considered home. With love and gratitude Al was in our lives, Elizabeth and John Reuthe

Condolence: I was deeply fortunate to meet Al soon after my arrival in Maine. His wisdom, humor, and strength helped show me what Maine is about. His passion for education helped show me what the Class of 1944 is about. Thank you, Al, for who you were and what you represented.

Condolence: Your Dad, Granddad, Loved One left a legacy that lives in all the people he touched. He was the fearless leader of the Exxon I&CB group when I started 35+ years ago. He inspired us to do our best by his example, and the division and its people prospered as a result. Even though he was a senior manager, he did not forget his newest employees. I am grateful to him and your family for sharing your Christmas in 1977. A lovely hand painted angel still adorns our Christmas tree every year as a reminder of that happy time. He was truly a great leader, and his passion, humanity and keen intellect are still remembered.

Condolence From: Holly Miller, Pen Bay Healthcare
Condolence: All of us at Pen Bay offer our condolences to Al's family. Al was a staunch supporter of the old Knox County General Hospital, and, after Pen Bay Medical Center was built, helped guide it into its current life as the Knox Center for Long Term Care. He was supporting the Knox right up to the present, and meetings were never dull with Al there. In past years Al also served on the Pen Bay Medical Center Board and on the Board of Pen Bay Healthcare Foundation. There are many, many people in the Pen Bay family who will miss Al.

Condolence: It was such a treat to have seen Uncle Al and all my cousins two years ago in Owls Head. He greeted me with that big smile and strong hug just like he did 50 years ago when our families would spend time together in Owls Head. He was still enjoying life to the fullest. On our way out of Rockland, my husband and I got to witness him in action lobstering with his sterman Libby. What a joy to be doing what you love at 91!

Condolence From: Beth Wiemann
Condolence: Al hosted many concerts over the years for the University of Maine performing groups, and was always a great support to our students and our programs. I remember performing for the Class of 1944 myself in Owls Head, and being entertained in return by Al and his wonderful stories. He will be missed in all corners of the state.

The faculty and staff of the School of Performing Arts at UMaine send all of our best wishes to the McNeilly family and to all those close to Al around the region.

Beth Wiemann, Chair of the Music division, University of Maine

Condolence From: Carole McNeilly
Condolence: To each of Al's children, Jill, Marc, Susie, Joan, and all of the extended family and of course, all of his many friends and University of Maine alumni, I send my deepest condolences. He was my brother-in-law, but he felt more like a brother. He continually called to check on me after Uncle Joe passed away. All I can say that he was a heck of a man and will be greatly missed. He filled the void in many people's lives and always left us with a smile. Please remain strong. That's just what he'd want. I love all of my extended family. Forever, Carole
