Obituary for Percie Edward Fiske Jr.

Percie Edward Fiske Jr.
ROCKVILLE - Percie E. Fiske, 82, died peacefully, Monday, March 31, 2014, following an extended illness, surrounded by loving family and friends.

Born in Rockland, October 7, 1931, he was the son of Percie and Grace Partridge Fiske. Educated locally, he was a 1950 graduate of Rockport High School.

Following high school Percie worked for Staples Garage in Rockland as a mechanic. In 1952 he was drafted to the U.S. Army, serving overseas in Korea. Upon his honorable discharge, Percie returned to the States where he met Patricia Fowler at a dance in Spruce Head. The two were married on January 26, 1957 at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Rockland.

Percie and Pat made their home in Rockland for over 30 years while he was employed at Camden Tannery. In 1981 the couple moved to Boca Grande, Florida where they served as caretakers for the DuPont Family Estate. Percie retired after 20 years of dedicated and meticulous service.

A lover of the outdoors, he took great pride in his own lawn and landscaping. He spent countless hours caring for his own property, mowing his own lawn with a walk-behind mower, three times a week after working all day.

Percie was a long time member of the Rockland Lodge of Elks, and the Rockport Lodge of Masons. Although he rarely spoke about it, he was proud to have served during the Korean Conflict. His quiet nature, unassuming presence and kind heart will be missed by all who knew him.
Predeceased by his wife in 2006 and a daughter-in-law Kim Fiske in 2012; Percie is survived by his sons and their spouses, Percie Fiske of St. George, Mark Fiske and Nicki Powell-Fiske of Tenants Harbor, Stephen Fiske and Barbara Post of Rockville; his sister Vestina Heckendorn of Bridgeport, Connecticut; grandchildren, James Fiske and his companion Jess Labbe of Gardiner, Danica Fiske of Charleston, South Carolina, Eben Fiske of Portland, Sarah Fiske and Hannah Fiske of Rockville; one great-grandson Mason Fiske of Gardiner; and a special life-long friend Warren Perry and his wife Diane of Rockland. Percie’s family is incredibly grateful to Kelly Carr and the Wilson family for their outstanding love and support that enriched Percie’s life over the past five years.

A celebration of Percie’s life will be held at 2:00 PM, Friday, May 16, 2014 at Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock Street, Rockland. Interment with military honors will follow at the Rockville Cemetery, Rt. 17, Rockville.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Lewy Body Dementia Association, 912 Killian Hill Road, S.W. Lilburn, GA 30047.
