William Henry  Metzger Jr.
CAMDEN formerly TENANTS HARBOR - William H. Metzger, JR. 92, passed away peacefully, Wednesday, March 12, 2014 at Quarry Hill.
Born in Richmond, Virginia, February 17, 1922, he was the son of William, Sr. and Elizabeth Hasker Metzger.
He was a graduate of Richmond College, now known as the University of Richmond..
During World War II he served in the Navy as a Lieutenant on a destroyer escort, the USS Haverfield.
Following the war, William was employed as a scientist (chemist) at the National Bureau of Standards in Washington, D.C. until his retirement in 1977 when a move was made to Tenants Harbor.
After retirement Bill became involved in Masonic work, becoming a Mason in 1979, culminating in his service as Master of the Eureka Lodge in Tenants Harbor. He also served as District Deputy Grand Master for the Ninth Masonic District from 1987-1989. He was active in the collateral bodies of the York and Scottish Rites as well as an active member of the Kora Temple Shrine AAONMS, Lewiston. He was also President of the Midcoast Shrine Club in 1985.
Mr. Metzger is survived by his wife of 64 years, Marion Jane Grant Metzger of Camden.
Services and burial will be held at a later date on North Haven.
Arrangements are in the care of Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock Street, Rockland.
