OWLS HEAD - Andrew B. ‘Andy’ York, 67, died unexpectedly of natural causes at his home, Friday, February 14, 2014.
Born in Thomaston, October 11, 1946, he was the son of Carroll R. and Dorothy M. Curtis York.
Although born in Thomaston, he grew up in Owls Head.
During his first marriage, Andy lived in Rockland until the early 1980s when he returned to Owls Head. At that time he built the home where he has since lived.
For many years, he owned a pet monkey.
Andy was the unofficial South End Maritime Farms police. He arrived at that store every morning at 5:45 A.M.
For several years, he lobstered out of Owls Head aboard his boat, an old Jonesporter, the FV See Smoke. Andy was often accompanied by his second wife, Linda Kaler York and their son Christopher.
Long active in the community, for more than 16 years, Andy served the Town of Owls Head as keeper of the stump dump. For many years he served as a Fire Police Officer with the Owls Head Fire Department.
Speaking of his father, Andy’s son Christopher said that his father was always willing to help anyone in need and that he was one of the best natured people he ever met.
An avid CB’r, Andy was known by the radio handle ‘Blue Dolphin’.
Other than his parents, Andy was pre-deceased by a sister Beverly Tozyer. He is survived by one son Christopher G. Harlow of Owls Head; a twin sister Donna Bradford of Rockport; a sister Madeline Bradford of Rockland; a niece and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M., Wednesday, February 26th, at Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock Street, Rockland. A remembrance service will be held at 10:00 A.M., Thursday at the funeral home. Spring interment will be in the Owls Head Cemetery.
