Obituary for Roxie Vesta Hill (Whitehouse)

ROCKLAND - Roxie V. Hill, 80, died unexpectedly, at her home Friday, January 3, 2014.
Born in Camden, October 13, 1933, she was the daughter of Maynard L. and Arvilla Gray Whitehouse. Educated in local schools, she was a 1952 graduate of Camden High School.
July 2, 1952, she married Joseph O. Hill. The couple lived all their married lives on Washington Street, where they raised their family.
In earlier years, Roxie worked at van Baalen’s in Rockland. For most of her life she devoted herself to her family as a homemaker, wife, mother and grandmother.
For many years she enjoyed bowling, not only with her family, but also on leagues at Oakland Park Lanes and Rockland Family Bowling.
She loved fishing, particularly at Camden Harbor. When her children were younger, trips to Camden Harbor and the Camden Amphitheater were favorite pastimes.
Receiving dialysis since 2008, Roxie considered the staff at Damariscotta Dialysis as special friends and caregivers.
She attended Littlefield Memorial Baptist Church in Rockland.
Pre-deceased by her beloved husband in 2003; a great-grandson Samuel Hill in 1998; as well as two brothers Maynard and Larry Whitehouse; a sister Alice; Roxie is survived by her five children, Mary Ann Hill of Northfield, NH , Steven L. Hill and his wife Lafona of Appleton, David ‘Wayne’ Hill, Allen M. Hill and his wife Georgiamay all of Rockland, Glenn S. Hill and his wife Elizabeth of Standish; a brother Carl Whitehouse and his wife Sally of North Windham, CT; 15 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; as well as nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M., Saturday, April 19, 2014, at Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock Street, Rockland. Interment will follow at Achorn Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the National Kidney Foundation of Maine, 85 Astor Avenue, Suite 2, Norwood, MA 02061-5040.
