Obituary for Gary Kenneth Orne

Gary Kenneth Orne
UNION - Gary K. Orne, 58, died unexpectedly at home, Thursday, October 31, with his wife at his side.

Born in Damariscotta, June 6, 1955, he was the son of Kenneth and Phyllis Miller Orne. Growing up in Rockland, he was educated locally, graduating from Rockland District High School in 1973.

While in high school Gary worked part time for Courier Publications, and after graduation continued, working full time. He started as a paper-cutter and worked his way up to the pre-press production department. Working there for over 30 years, he later worked for a brief time at Lie-Nielsen Toolworks.

While working at the Courier, Gary met his future wife Pamela Barron. The two were married in St. George on July 16, 1993. They resided in St. George for five years before moving to their home in Union.

An avid outdoorsman, Gary loved hunting, fishing, fiddle-heading and just being in the woods. He took great pleasure in teaching his daughter things like how to bait a hook, change a tire and shoot a bow and a gun.

He loved anything to do with Street Rods, often going to car shows. He was proud to be in the process of building his own 1932 Austin Bantam Roadster, and when finished, to be painted his favorite color of “Sunset Red over Pure Gold”. Throughout the years, Gary also enjoyed going to Winterport Dragway and the annual VIP Show, Shine and Drag, often taking his daughter along with him.

Gary loved to cook, taking his mother's recipes and putting his own spin on them. Although his recipes were sometimes unique, he enjoyed to share his creations with those he loved, whether they liked it or not.
He will be sadly missed by all who loved him.

Predeceased by his mother, Phyllis Orne in 2006, Gary is survived by his beloved wife of 21 years, Pamela Orne of Union; his father Kenneth Orne and his wife Millie of Union; his only daughter Shannon Orne and her companion Dennis Emery, II of Warren; his brother Craig Orne and his companion Annette Bissell of Belfast; his brother Robert Achorn and his wife Linda of Islesboro, his sister Patty Arrington and her husband John of Denton, Texas; his grandchildren, Shawnte Drummond, Liam O’Brien and Emma Emery; his step-grandchildren, D.J. Emery, Dylan Emery; his nieces Kim Achorn, Amanda Sylvester and her husband Warren; and two great-nieces, Haylee Sylvester and Rebecca Johnson.

A celebration of Gary’s life will be held at 1:00 PM, Friday, November 8, 2013 at Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock Street, Rockland. A gathering of family and friends will follow at the home of Kenneth Orne, 406 Wottons Mill Road, Union.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to; Maine Audobon, 20 Gilsland Farm Rd., Falmouth, ME 04105
