Hilda  Rogers (Taylor)
WINDSOR - Hilda Rogers, 88, died peacefully, yet unexpectedly Saturday, March 17, 2012, at her home.

Born in St. George, March 5, 1924, she was one of nine children of Lewis and Marjorie Taylor. Educated in St. George schools, she was a graduate of St. George High School.

June of 1946, she married Alton D. Rogers at St.George, when he returned from the military at the end of World War II.

The couple made their home at Loons Cove, St. George for a brief time before moving to Buttermilk Lane, Thomaston where they lived for about three years. They then moved to Thomaston Street in Rockland and later to Owls Head. Most recently since 1997, she lived in Windsor.

When her sons were younger, she was an active participant in their lives, playing ball with them and taking them to the shore. She enjoyed camping and family gatherings and was a long time member of Beaver Lodge (Knox County Fish & Game Assn.). She particularly enjoyed regular trips to “Cozy Cabins” at Greenville, where thrilled in watching moose with her nieces Roberta Sedgwick and Irene Thibodeau.

Predeceased by her husband Alton on June 22, 1997, and one son, Leo D. Rogers on January 25, 2012, Mrs. Rogers is survived by three sons and their wives, Kendall & Dena Rogers, Steven and Debbie Rogers all of Warren, Russell Rogers of Waldoboro; one brother Frank Taylor of South Thomaston; two sisters, Charlotte Matson of Wisconsin, Virginia Cushman of Stonington; seven grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 21st at Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock Street, Rockland, where a celebration of Hilda’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday. The Reverend Wayne Sawyer will officiate. Private interment will be held in the spring.
