Obituary for Michael L. "Mike" Ulvila

Michael L. "Mike"  Ulvila
CALAIS – Michael L. Ulvila, 29, formerly of Rockland, died unexpectedly, Friday, December 30, 2011, at Calais Regional Hospital.

Born in Painesville, Ohio, Mike was the son of Dennis Ulvila and Kelly Blood Ulvila. Moving with his family to Maine in 1993, Mike attended Medomak Valley High School for two years before transferring to Rockland District High School. He enjoyed playing baseball for both schools, as well as being a force to be reckoned with on the football field for the Rockland Tigers.

Always a hard worker, Mike was employed on the wait staff at Grapes, Bricks and Denny’s while in high school. Following high school he attended Husson College for three years. While at Husson he was employed at Captain Nick’s and Sears. Mike later moved to Daytona Beach, Florida and returned to Maine in 2009, residing in Calais with his mother.

It was in Calais that Mike found fulfillment in his most recent occupation as a Personal Care Attendant. Mike’s family said he made friends easily and was a friend to many.

Mike loved his dog ‘Cash’ who was his constant companion. Together they enjoyed fishing, camping and hiking.

Predeceased by his maternal grandfather, Lawrence Blood, and paternal grandparents Helen and Emil Ulvila, Mike is survived by his father Dennis M. Ulvila and his wife, Cindy of Rockland; his mother, Kelly Ulvila and her companion, Alexander Thomson of Calais; maternal grandmother, Alfreda Blood of Union; his brothers, Timothy E. Ulvila of Rockland; Jesse R. Ulvila and his wife Jossilyn of Rockland; his sister Brandi Gourde and her husband Jeremy of Warren; a step-brother Kevin Johnston and his fiancé Danica Simmons; two nieces Emma Ulvila, Sahmara Robbins; and four nephews, Hunter Gourde, Brooks Gourde, Kevin Johnston, Jr., and Nate Stevens.

Friends and relatives are invited to visit from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Monday, January 9, 2012, at Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock Street, Rockland.

Those who wish may make memorial donations to either the Oceanside Football Program, c/o Oceanside High School, 400 Broadway, Rockland, ME 04841, or the Humane Society of one’s choice.
